Two people who can’t leave their homes—he has health issues, she’s paralyzed by depression—strike up an online romance in this melancholy drama by Shepsu Aakhu. Communicating exclusively via phone and e-mail, the two of them have elaborate imaginary dates but can't find the courage to meet face-to-face. The script, which MPAACT is revisiting after first staging in 2006, contains some affecting lyrical monologues on loneliness, death, and despondency; in Andrea J. Dymond’s unhurried production, Brandon Greenhouse and Demetria Thomas, as the couple, deliver their speeches with intelligence and emotional subtlety. But Aakhu hasn’t figured out a way to dramatize the characters’ inaction (never an easy task), settling instead for having them describe their stalemate to one another over and over again. —Zac Thompson
