The premise couldn't be simpler: an evening of hits by the songwriting team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller ("Charlie Brown," "Hound Dog," "On Broadway"), designed to heat the audience up with rockers and then cool them down with sweet, sad ballads. Director McKinley Johnson serves it up in an elegant, energetic, highly entertaining revival, the first production by Open Door Repertory Company at their new space in the middle of Oak Park. The cast are equally adept at singing the songs, executing Johnson's witty choreography, and quickly creating compelling--if paper-thin--characters that they just as quickly drop for the next song. Though far from the deep, this is a great show for lifting your spirits. --Jack Helbig
