Smith & Wollensky | River North | Steaks/Lobster | Restaurant
Upscale New York chain steak house in Marina City.

Our Review

A view of the Chicago River, prime beef dry aged in-house—Smith & Wollensky is a quintessential Chicago steak house even if it does hail from New York. Caesar salad, crab cakes, or pristinely fresh oysters are delicious starters (after the requisite martini of course), but steer clear of the shellfish "bouquet" selection, which is expense account territory, as are daily specials. Dry-aged beef delights with its intense beefy flavor, lightly mineral with the tang that separates a good from a great steak. The Colorado steak, a beaut of a bone-in rib eye, is my weapon of choice, though any of the classic cuts satisfy. There's a deft hand with seafood on display as well: true Dover sole was as delectable as it was pricey. Well-executed sides include hash browns, fried zucchini, creamed spinach, and scrumptious truffled mac 'n' cheese. Lunch offers one of the top burgers in town, 12 ounces of perfectly prepared ground beef on a hearty bun.
