In Spanish playwright Emilio Williams's snappy, thoroughly 21st-century comedy, even the characters know that they're in a parody of Waiting for Godot. "This Fede just seems like a metaphor for the death of god," gripes one of them, as they wait in the unseen man's living room, peering into the depths of their iPhones for a clue to his whereabouts. But this one-act, which Williams also directs for Trap Door Theatre, is more than just a tech-savvy send-up of Samuel Beckett. Undercurrents of everything from Sartre to Agatha Christie weave through the story, as the four characters' smartphones meet untimely ends one by one. It's a smart, well-executed show with just the right ratio of mockery to substance. —Keith Griffith
