Comedy drama
An adequate but inconsequential 1976 entertainment from Francois Truffaut, following a season in the lives of a group of small-town school (and preschool) children. It's best when Truffaut is at his most shameless—these kids can mug like vets—but his direction is sometimes surprisingly crude, mainly in the way he tries to tie together the diffuse, episodic structure by calling on the adult members of the cast to deliver periodic homilies on the sanctity of childhood. It hardly adds up to anything more than a Gallic version of Kids Say the Darndest Things, but a few pleasant moments make it worthwhile.
Director: François Truffaut
Cast: Geory Desmouceaux, Richard Golfier, Sylvie Grezel, Pascale Bruchon and Chantal Mercier
