Isabelle Adjani stars as a French literature instructor, recently separated from her husband, who’s driven to the breaking point by her buffoonish principal and wildly insubordinate students. After confiscating a bully's smuggled gun, she snaps and takes the class hostage; SWAT teams converge outside the locked schoolroom while, inside, a traumatized girl denounces sexism, a quiet Arab boy exposes religious hypocrites, and everyone gets a hard lesson in citizenship. Directed by Jean-Paul Lilienfeld, this 2009 made-for-TV feature borders on the overwrought until about halfway through, when it settles down to examine its various social themes. In French with subtitles.
