Re: “The Field Museum's Native North American Hall starts to ask who it represents

It's great to see such an in-depth article on a topic that isn't usually given that kind of thoughtful treatment.

I am left with just one question, which is why there aren't any actual quotes from Field Museum or American Indian Center representatives - were they asked to comment but did not? It seems odd to quote wall panel text when I'm sure these institutions have PR or other staff who would welcome media inquiries about the project.

Re: “Chance the Rapper offers a video preview of the new Chicagoist

I just have to smh at the people interviewed on the street... I'm hoping the more clueless folks were the exceptions and not the rule.

Re: “Joravsky's advice for the Republican Party

"TIFs were also supposed to act like down payments/seed money for companies that wanted to develop in blighted communities but couldn't secure financing. That ain't happening: UPS, FedEx, Amazon, Whole Foods."

Same thing with TODs.

Re: “The Lincoln Yards TIF will benefit development firm Sterling Bay—but cost Chicagoans

A good question is why has nobody in Hopkins' ward stepped up to challenge him for office, purely on the basis of this project? Dude is clearly a lackey, he's yet to say one damned thing which indicates that he's familiar with the nuances and history of the neighborhood and its land use and transportation issues.

Re: “Joravsky's advice for the Republican Party

It would be helpful for IAC to explain why he believes TIF is an effective tool for its stated purpose of encouraging development, where it would not otherwise occur.

I'd also question whether it's efficient in serving this end. What is the "cut" that the red-tape laden TIF process itself takes off the top? Legal and administrative fees and staff time required by the city (not to mention the time of community members to keep up with the process) are notoriously epic.
