Re: “The golden age of democracy finally shows up—in the raft of former insiders turned mayoral candidates

Better than our President, who very well may be taking direction from a commie thug.

Re: “The golden age of democracy finally shows up—in the raft of former insiders turned mayoral candidates

"but wouldn't you think the third largest city in the US would have at least one candidate from the city's second largest demographic? And the most influential local Hispanic Democrat has all of a sudden gone silent?"

Oh, the plot is thicker than mud, no doubt about it - there is clearly a ton of horse trading going on behind the scenes regarding other races and key appointments.

Same as it ever was...

WTCM: Wasn't Epton recruited to run as a Republican by Dick Mell, Fast Eddie and the rest of their ilk? That smorgasbord of racism was pretty inclusive for all of the "white ethnics" as Royko used to call them.

Re: “The golden age of democracy finally shows up—in the raft of former insiders turned mayoral candidates

Maybe the Hispanic community will rally behind a Republican?

OK, now that we've all stopped laughing, I await the day when Chicagoans will evolve past the tribal custom of voting only for those one shares some general ancestral background with.

All it seems to do is result in ever-more complicated scheming, wheeling and dealing behind the scenes. Can't we for once focus on qualifications and issues?

You should trademark "tithe and jive" immediately!

He sure does have an aversion to regular see-through windows, doesn't he?

Re: “‘This is a march of civil disobedience’ [PHOTOS]

I don't have an issue with protest marches, but this was a pitiful showing. Most accounts said there were possibly as many as 200 marchers, which does not even remotely warrant all of the taxpayer resources it took to make this happen safely.

Before CPD agrees to do this again they should set some standards - I'd say the bare minimum should be 1,000 registered people before we should be closing major pieces of transportation infrastructure.

Otherwise, what's to stop any and everybody from demanding the same thing? That's the irony here, folks complaining about unequal treatment and resource distribution are in fact the ones receiving an unequal allotment of Chicago taxpayer resources.

Re: “Caught between black and blue

"In other words, there should be no accountability for bad policing? "

Absolutely not. There should be MORE accountability for bad policing. A systemic fix is required, I agree with you there, as I am 100% onboard with an overhaul of the way CPD conducts themselves, from how their union inexplicably bends over backwards to protect bad cops, to the policy of allowing off-duty officers to keep their service weapons on them.

All I'm saying is that at the same time, it will help the overall situation if everyone in Chicago is on the same page regarding what is supposed to happen when someone is stopped by the police (that includes the police, btw). IMO, that absolutely includes some just basic respect for police officers who are just doing their jobs.

I mention the stress element as in the course of my far less stressful life, I see people who lose their shit when interrupted trying to program the microwave, send a text, make a left turn out into traffic, etc. So I can appreciate that even the remote possibility of being killed while just doing your job must have an impact.

Given how NYC and LA have turned this corner, it seems fairly obvious Chicago can, and needs, to do a lot better.
