It's the anti-Mad Men. Sharr White's mournful, episodic drama (scenes are set every six years between 1949 and 1973) nestles into a marriage and social milieu not far removed from those portrayed in the AMC series. But Phil Granger (Sean Patrick Fawcett), White's traumatized World War II vet, hasn't learned to mask his myriad insecurities the way Don Draper has, and Phil's wife, Meredith (Marsha Harman), refuses to be constrained in a postwar Feminine Mystique prison. Jessica Hutchinson's staging for New Leaf Theatre has some clunky scene changes, but the riveting chemistry between Fawcett and Harman makes us believe that these two have endured the worst years of their lives together without completely losing their souls. Darci Nalepa's party girl also deserves special mention. --Kerry Reid
