Produced by the Henson Legacy, this marvelous video compilation looks at some of the musical high points of Sesame Street over its 41-year run--and there have been plenty. Among the stars shown dropping by for a song are Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Pete Seeger, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Carol Channing, Madeline Kahn, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Patti La Belle, Feist, and R.E.M. The program also includes some priceless Muppet parodies of the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, and Isaac Hayes. But the video may be most important for recognizing the songwriters who brought Sesame Street to life, like Joe Raposo ("Sing," "Bein' Green") and Jeff Moss ("Rubber Duckie," "The People in Your Neighborhood"). Henson got all the attention, but the tunesmiths were just as responsible for the show's powerful appeal.
