Re: “Did Cook County prosecutors overlook evidence and help send an innocent man to prison?

For all of you asking the author to give 'Mr. Prieb credit' or accusing him of 'presenting Preib's point of view and version of events, unquestioned.'... The Grand Jury documents about this case are public. How do you know he did not use those as his source? There's also 'Chimera' by Bill Crawford, and a documentary about the case... all of which use the Grand Jury transcripts as it's primary source.

Todd, if Taylor was really 'the only witness' in this case, then yes his partial recant would matter more. But there were 5 other witnesses who independently implicated Porter- one of which ID's him as the shooter as well (Kenneth Edwards). For the Northwestern team to admit that they didn't have a clue about these other witnesses, shows that they didn't read the police reports, and only focused on getting Taylor to flip because he was the only one alive who testified at the criminal trial.

Re: “Did Cook County prosecutors overlook evidence and help send an innocent man to prison?

Taylor 'recanted' in December 1998, saying he could no longer say that Porter pulled the trigger (he admitted that he was harassed by the NW team, and wanted the case out of his life- and signed this to be done with the case). However, he still maintained that Porter ran down the bleachers away from the crime scene after the shooting- right past him. The Northwestern team admitted that they left this important fact out of their 'recant' affidavit that they had Taylor sign. In Feb. 1999, Taylor gave a statement to Thomas Gainer as part of the Grand Jury investigation and told the above facts and still maintained that the man "looked like Anthony Porter." (hardly a recant, especially alongside Henry Williams testimony, who claimed Porter robbed him at gunpoint, walked up into the bleachers and pulled a gun on the victim Jerry Hillard).
