Re: “What’s so funny about Indiana?

Come on, Reader. Does no one check this stuff? There is no "University of Indiana" in Bloomington. And everyone knows that U of I is the University of Illinois. How could you possibly go to Bloomington, IN, and think the school there is called either of those things. There's something that says "IU" every 3 feet. I know the Reader is merely a shadow of its former self at this point, but any high school senior could have corrected this story.

Re: “Kerry James Marshall reconstructs art history with black Americans at its center

Nice writeup on Marshall's work, but you missed one important point. Adam and Eve did not have the tree of life but the tree of knowledge. Eating its fruit got them expelled from paradise and doomed mankind to the eternal status of sinner. Hence the name of Marshall's piece and the abundant meanings therein.

Re: “The Avengers

Just because you--or 100 million people, for that matter--like a movie doesn't mean it's good. To call a movie "good," you need to use some sort of intellectual discernment. Finding something "enjoyable" doesn't make it good. I readily admit that a lot of movies, art, etc, that I like is not good, but I like it. Most people, however, call everything they like "good." They find it impossible to say, "Well, it's really a bad movie, but I like it." When someone tells me a movie's good, I sometimes ask the simple question, "What makes it good?" If he/she can't come up with something more than "it's enjoyable" or "I liked it" or "it was cool," it probably wasn't really that good.
