Shifting Totem, Tomorrow the Moon, Still Machine

When: Sat., Jan. 18, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $5 suggested donation
This four-piece local metal band, formed in 2008, has built a solid reputation via steady gigging and video postings on their Facebook page. Note to bands of the doom, sludge, and stoner persuasions who want that authentic grotty, sweaty early-70s bellowing-down-a-wind-tunnel vibe: try recording yourself live at the Mutiny. Shifting Totem have enough material posted online to make an all-killer, no-filler EP packed with glorious caveman riffing, and I’m told that they’re shopping for a studio in which to record a full-length in late winter or early spring. If you start listening to these guys now, you aren’t really getting in on the ground floor—they’re five years along already—but it’s still a joy to watch a band solidify into something potent and powerful. —Monica Kendrick Tomorrow the Moon and Still Machine open.
