Writer-director Mary Bonnett's new drama about the evils of sex trafficking has the tinge of high school educational theater. It's so eager to instruct that it forgets its basic function as a play: to create a believable alternate reality and give its audience insight into the way other people think and behave. Instead it substitutes plot devices for characters, gives them expository speeches instead of real dialogue, and announces that things have happened instead of showing them. The plot, such as it is, concerns a mentally unraveling 15-year-old prostitute named Baby Girl, her interactions with various members of the wealthy Johnson family, and how these interactions damage the souls of everyone involved. Profits from this production go to the Dreamcatcher Foundation, a nonprofit that fights human trafficking in Chicago. Send them your $35 instead. —Aimee Levitt
