In Edward Albee's whimsical Pulitzer-winning drama, two diametric couples on a beach reflect on human nature. Nancy and Charlie, mired in midlife crises and the challenge of living in the present, are obsessed with doing things to prove they're happy. They conjure up escapist fantasies of living beneath the sea, a fantasy realized by Leslie and Sarah, middle-aged talking lizards who crawl out of the water and learn what love is from the more emotionally savvy earth creatures. Terry McCabe stages this mirror-vision exercise with all the delicacy the play's discoveries deserve. If it seems a tad drier than it did 30 years ago, its portrait of premature evolution and human flux still fits us like a second skin--or scales. Through 10/30: Fri-Sat 8 PM, Sun 3 PM. City Lit Theater Company, Edgewater Presbyterian Church, 1020 W. Bryn Mawr, 773-293-3682. $25.
