Screw You, I'm Nancy Drew | Gift Theatre Company | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Sept. 7 2014
Price: $10
This one-woman show, written and performed by Indianapolis-based Kim McCann, uses the 1959 revision of the Nancy Drew mystery series—in which, among other changes, the girl detective was made less sassy and more "feminine"—as the jumping-off point for a witty if twisted murder mystery. The show also works as a pointed critique of gender roles and the subtle ways media shape and distort them. Unfortunately, McCann the writer isn't well served by McCann the performer; onstage she lacks the range, warmth, and energy to keep an audience's attention for 40 minutes. There are dozens of actors in Chicago alone who could have made this fine writing fly. Part of the Chicago Fringe Festival. Jack Helbig
