You are guilty of committing a slander, sir. It was the black rat - rattus rattus - commonly called the tree rat - which was responsible for carrying the plague to Europe. The rattus rattus prefers to live in human dwellings, while the Norway rat prefers to keep different quarters. Some estimate that the Norway rat may have in fact saved Europe; a inmigration of Rattus norvegicus pushing the Black Rats out of Europe and into their contemporary tropical existence. I'd like to also suggest you check out this recent health warning about squirrel brains and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease:
