Part of this year's Rhinofest, "Sand Castles" is a triptych of very short plays by John Green. No, not that John Green, though this JG aspires to the same mix of humor, pathos, and clever philosophical musings that sold millions of copies of The Fault in Our Stars. Only this program is neither funny nor wise, just muddled and cliched. And yet Green is quite pleased with himself for delivering the most banal conclusions—that many people aren't as happy as they pretend, that change is a part of life, that connection with others is hard—as deep, universal truths. The actors, under Emmi Hilger's direction, sometimes try to sound like humans, but Galya Loeb's stilted performance is contagious. The show's just 20 minutes; each one costs you 75 cents. —Aimee Levitt
