Logan Square's Saki Records is launching a label! The three folks involved—Saki events coordinator Matt Byrne, store manager Adam Hirzel, and Carrot Top Records manager Erin Coleman—originally planned to launch with a recording of the store's Concatenating Pedals concert from June, where Tim Kinsella, Dan Mohr, Sam Wagster, and a handful of other local musicians improvised while the audience used effects pedals to mess with their output. But that's not done, so the label's first release will be the vinyl edition of You're Still a Lover, a new EP by local indie-pop band Santah. The EP drops next month, and Saki is sponsoring two local release shows—Thu 10/25 at Township and Fri 10/26 at the Burlington.

Neon Marshmallow cofounder Matt Kimmel brings shows to Logan Square's Burlington Bar (the Reader named him Best New Booker With an Ear for the Weird in June), and he just landed a great one: Papa M, the solo project of beloved Louisville postrock guitarist David Pajo (Slint, Tortoise, Interpol), makes its first Chicago appearance in nearly a decade on Sat 9/29.

On Tue 10/16 avant-metal band Yakuza will follow up their 2010 LP Of Seismic Consequence with the new Beyul (Profound Lore). Lead singer and sax man Bruce Lamont tells us that engineer Sanford Parker helped give the album a suffocating, heavy sound—and based on the tracks posted online, he ain't kidding! Yakuza play a release party on Fri 10/19 at the Empty Bottle with Dysrhythmia and Helen Money (see Artist on Artist), and the first 100 heshers to buy tickets get a free copy of the record. In the meantime, on Sun 9/30 at Bottom Lounge, Yakuza opens for Saint Vitus as their improv alter ego, Kabuki Mono—for the first time in more than five years, they'll take the stage and make it up as they go!
