Denise Wright and Dave Hudson's musical fable has three toe tappers (the title song, "No Dancing," and "I Do, Do I?"), one tug-at-the-heartstrings duet ("I Believe in You"), lots of good Latin-rhythm dances choreographed by Brenda Didier, and irresistible performances by Karl Sean Hamilton and Jim Sherman. It also has a plot cluttered with prophecies, miracles, miscarried deathbed bequests, ghostly interventions, a magic talisman, a Gypsy peddler, a village madman, a beautiful orphan girl, a romantically challenged boy. Still, with some serious pruning, this work in progress at Theatre Building Chicago could become a homegrown hit. Through 4/3: Thu-Fri 8:15 PM, Sat 3 and 8:15 PM, Sun 3 PM. Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont, 773-327-5252. $25.
