Documentary
A veteran of the Greenwich Village poetry scene and later the Merry Pranksters, Hugh Romney entered the public consciousness as the impish emcee at Woodstock and was later dubbed "Wavy Gravy" by B.B. King. But there's more to this 2009 documentary than 60s nostalgia: after recruiting the Grateful Dead to play a famine relief fundraiser for Bangladesh, Romney helped found the third-world-relief organization the Seva Foundation, which has cured more than two million victims of blindness. Directed by Michelle Esrick, the movie is an illuminating portrait of a gentle soul who's effected change through his spiritual ethos and savvy social networking.
