Russell Peters | the Improv | Stand-Up | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: March 12-15 2009
Price: $45
The Canadian son of Indian immigrants, Russell Peters identifies himself as "brown" and uses his status as a member of a minority to justify targeting just about everybody on earth: Latinos, Jews, Africans, African-Americans (a term he doesn’t like), Italians, Chinese--nd, of course, Indians, the "cheapest" race. In a thick accent, Peters imagines how an Indian mathematician invented zero: "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. . . . None of those amounts I want to pay." In one breath he says he doesn't do Arab jokes because he "doesn’t want to die," and in the next he ridicules the American media for showing only the "rednecks of the Arab world." He claims that sooner or later the Chinese and Indians are "gonna hump" the rest of us, and imagines hybrids like "Hinjews" and "Pastafarians." Peters is a provocateur for the multicultural era of Slumdog Millionaire and Barack Obama. --Ryan Hubbard
