Mandala South Asian Performing Arts presents a piece inspired by the work of the 13th century Persian poet and scholar. Artistic director Pranita Nayar uses Rumi’s forlorn description of lovers ("tahwid"), who are unable to experience transcendental “oneness” due to physical and emotional distance. The piece also evokes Persian calligraphy in the movement vocabulary, and is accompanied by a digital animation created by Aadit Arora, with an original score by Sufi composer Niloufar Nourbaksh. The show is open to a limited live audience and will also be available through a ticketed digital livestream.
