The freshness of the presidential election notwithstanding, political satire at a Christmas drag show comes across as a case of right idea, wrong venue. So ignore the Mitt Romney and 47 percent jokes sprinkled here and there—David Cerda's witty, raunchy 15th annual holiday comedy holds up nicely in spite of them. A twinky, cross-dressing Rudolph, a sass-challenged Herbie, and a butch Yukon Cornelius try to find acceptance in Christmas Town, the gay dystopia inhabited by a self-medicating Mrs. Claus, a misogynistic Santa, and a Sandusky-inspired reindeer coach. Hell in a Handbag Productions both sends up and subverts the cliches of gay camp culture. We've seen Cher impersonators before—but Ed Jones's hilarious, Burlesque-era Cher, who has to be propped up and moved around the stage by her backup dancers? That's new. —Dan Jakes
