Royksopp & Robyn | Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park | Rock, Pop, Etc | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Sun., Aug. 24, 7 p.m. 2014
Price: $25-$59.50
Feisty Swedish antipop singer Robyn and mellowed-out Norwegian duo Royksopp joined forces in May to release Do It Again (Dog Triumph), a five-song EP that doubled as a reclamation of both artists’ turf—they released their previous full-lengths in 2010, an eternity ago in the hothouse of 21st-century pop. (They’d also collaborated before: Royksopp appeared on Robyn’s claustrophobic “None of Dem” in 2010, and Robyn sang on Royksopp’s pleading 2009 cyber-romance “The Girl and the Robot.”) Do It Again splits the difference between Robyn’s pugilistic style and Royksopp’s plush eletro-pop, and the title track (a rebuke to romantic recividism) reaches the sort of happy-sad heights that made “Dancing on My Own” a triumph for clubbers who go out to be alone in a crowd. Elsewhere the mood is decidedly mellow: the mournful “Every Little Thing” shuffles along dejectedly, and the closing instrumental, “Inside the Idle Hour Club,” is simultaneously arresting and vaguely reminiscent of a well-appointed nap pod. On this joint tour, Robyn and Royksopp will perform sets of their own, then take the stage together for a collaboration-heavy encore. —Maura Johnston
