Royal Headache, Bed Wettin' Bad Boys, Daylight Robbery

When: Sat., Sept. 17, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $8
The Aussie garage scene is straight on a roll right now—acts like Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Kitchen's Floor, and Super Wild Horses are stealing shows all over the U.S., earning their homeland some well-deserved cred north of the equator. Knocking on the door of the house party are Sydney cohorts Royal Headache and Bed Wettin Bad Boys, who've hitched their wagons to hype-worthy hometown label R.I.P. Society (founder Nic Warnock is in BWBB) for a host of dates in the States, including a stop at Gonerfest in Memphis. Royal Headache will be hawking their brand-spanking-new self-titled debut, whose driving, power-poppy garage is all the best kinds of simple, sassy, dirty fun—soulful and loaded with hooks, it's more likely to incite a mindless pogo pit or playful head bobbing than it is to get dudes doing that clunky thing where they just barrel into one another. The album's host of lo-fi, punchy romps often threaten to take the whole thing hostage—albeit in a Stockholm syndrome kind of way—but 60s pop moments like "Down the Lane" and "Distant and Vague" keep that from ever quite happening. Openers Bed Wettin Bad Boys make it pretty tough to ignore their ridiculously stupid name, but their angsty garage clatter—with its weirdly appealing nods to first-wave-of-flannel 90s alt-rock—ought to nicely set up the crisper grit of Royal Headache. —Kevin Warwick Royal Headache headlines; Bed Wettin Bad Boys and Daylight Robbery open. Bed Wettin Bad Boys also play a free in-store at Permanent at 5 PM with headliners Grimble Grumble.
