Rob Reid, Populele

When: Sat., Dec. 5, 9:30 p.m. 2009
Inspired by an eclectic and international range of songwriters including Francis Bebey, Caetano Veloso, Paul Simon, and Andrew Bird, Rob Reid incorporates various world music genres into a style uniquely his own. Layering percussion, vocal harmonies, guitar, and kitchenware on a looping station, he tells stories about such things as automated check-out clerks, penguins dancing amidst melting ice caps, and thirty foot tall seahorses made out of plaster. Populele is at the forefront of dedicated musicians bringing ukulele music back to life with a new sound that combines today's most popular music, standards and yesterday's timeless songs. His love of life and passion of music drips from these four strings and takes you to a world away from work and the everyday stress of life.
