A new combo from Lafayette, Louisiana, comprising members of the Red Stick Ramblers and the Pine Leaf Boys, the Revelers open their recent self-titled debut with the rollicking Cajun-style original "Des Fois," on which they sound like they're carrying on the Beausoleil sound, albeit in a stripped-down form. But take in the whole album, and they make it clear that they're after something else: their mixture of honky-tonk, R&B, zydeco, and rock 'n' roll suggests Louisiana swamp pop, a peculiar fusion of bayou styles that peaked in the 60s with the likes of Jewel & the Rubies' "Kidnapper" and Sam McClain's "Jukebox Songs" (both of which the Revelers cover). —Peter Margasak, 2013
