This imaginative mix of hope and harsh reality chronicles the lives of six African-American men, all physically or mentally stuck in public housing. Directed by Cheryl Lynn Bruce, Dan Beaty's "choreopoem" revolves around Eric, a ten-year-old who sees the sad-eyed men in his community, from portly Bishop to college-bound Twon, and frantically tries to concoct a cure for their aching hearts. Through song, dance, speech, and a humorous ode to soul food, the production highlights issues facing poor black communities. --Marissa Oberlander
