Drama, Romance
In 1991 a little girl witnesses her mother's murder on an elevated train platform in Brooklyn; ten years later, as a feisty, blue-collar student at New York University (Emilie de Ravin of ABC's Lost), she captures the heart of a brooding rich boy (Robert Pattinson). He's still mourning the death of his brother years earlier, for which he blames his father, a high-powered attorney (Pierce Brosnan, better than his material). Allen Coulter (Hollywoodland) directed this morose and sluggish drama, which gets more mileage from Pattinson's anguished profile than from Will Fetters's thunderously overwritten screenplay. With Chris Cooper and Lena Olin. PG-13, 113 min.
