The two best films in this experimental shorts program burrow into the historical and moral unease inherent in restaging a past event: in Artur Żmijewski’s 80064 (2004) an Auschwitz survivor gets his concentration camp tattoo re-inked, and in Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) Screed #20 (2003) artist Sharon Hayes recites a Patty Hearst audiotape. Matthew Paul Jinks’s The Queen's Tailor (2009) is smart but unadventurous, and the rest of the program is too flat to work outside a gallery installation: Dialogue with Comrade Ceauşescu (1978) and Post-Mortem Dialogue With Ceauşescu (2007) only hint at the playful photography for which artist Ion Grigorescu is best known. In English and subtitled Polish and Romanian.
