Our Review

Red Brick splits the difference between a sports bar, with its overabundance of flat-screen TVs, and a relatively well-appointed Middle Eastern place, with its den of leather armchairs in the window. But who exactly was asking for such a fusion? On our visit the zucchini pancakes were heavy and slightly soggy where they should have been light and crisp, with barely a hint of the promised mint. The lamb skewers ran no risk of being undercooked, an approach that produced better results with the grilled vegetables. The meat pizza, with a thick bed of cheese to cover anything distinctive about the meatballs, pepperoni, sausage, and salami on top, aroused memories of a favorite college bar. A generous splash of paprika across the mashed potatoes was about as exciting as it got, unless you counted the staffers arguing behind the bar. A music mix ranging from Kings of Leon to Lenny Kravitz seems intended to lure in the overflow from the popular Globe soccer bar next door.
