Race or Racism?

Can you tell me why Ami Moore was described as African-American in your article about bad dog trainers ["Who Should You Trust to Train Your Dog," April 6]? I didn't see any one else named in the article have their race pointed out. I'm not a journalist but even I know this blatant form of racism is something the media has extinguished long ago. I believe a massive apology is in order for the Chicago Reader. . . . Please, since I love your articles but will not read something that doesn't have the awareness of the harm they cause our society.

The editors reply:

Your point is well taken, but we chose to include the information that Moore is African-American because she herself has said she believes the allegations against her are racially motivated.
