Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger) gets to stretch more than his pecs in this noir-ish legal thriller that's loosely based on a true story. He plays a personal-injury lawyer in Houston who must kick his IV drug habit after he lands a major antitrust case involving corrupt hospital suppliers. Two veteran character actors also shine: Marshall Bell as the attorney's client, inventor of a retractable syringe that could inhibit the transmission of infectious diseases, and Brett Cullen as the cynical lawyer hired by Big Pharma to keep this product off the market. This lacks the heft of The Insider (1999) or the snap of Erin Brockovich (2000), but it's a thoughtful entry in the growing subgenre of whistle-blower dramas. Brothers Adam and Mark Kassen directed.
