Labor Day means more than the end of summer at this scene of the 1894 strike by employees of the Pullman Palace Car Company. Actors portraying then American Railway Union president Eugene V. Debs, "girls' union" local 269 president Jennie Curtis (both leading figures in the strike), Sleeping Car Porters Union president A. Philip Randolph, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt will take the stage inside the clock tower of the old factory to hold forth on the nation's labor movement and mark the 75th anniversary of Roosevelt's New Deal. Visitor's can tour the remains of the factory and the workers' village, picnic grounds are available, and there's live music after the program.
