Pueblito Viejo | Ravenswood | Latin American, Bar/Lounge, South American | Restaurant
Colombian bar-restaurant with over-the-top decor and lots of meat.

Our Review

Artificial trees, vines, fruits, and flowers and dozens of baskets fill just about every inch of wall space at this cavernous Colombian restaurant and bar. Latin soap operas and news shows blare on the multiple television sets, making conversation not only difficult but almost rude, since most customers are captivated by the screens. The long tables seat ten, and the menu's limited to a handful of Colombian specialties, most of which have pork, pork rind, or fried steak as the key ingredient. The best bet is to have a cocktail and order several appetizers: arepas (white corn pancakes topped with sausage, pork, or cheese), patacones (fried and lightly salted disks of green plantain similar to the Guatemalan and Puerto Rican tostones), or fried cassava served with wonderfully piquant tomatillos and jalapenos. Spanish-speaking servers are clad in logo T-shirts and hats; it's like a Latin version of Dick's Last Resort, only without the crowd.
