The highlight of this day trip to the southwest Michigan ancestral home of the Pokagon band of the Potawatami is in the eye of the beholder--lunch and a tour of the year-old Four Winds Casino Resort (fourwindscasino.com) in New Buffalo is followed by a drive to Rodgers Lake for Kee-Boon-Mein Kaa, a powwow and dance competition celebrating the huckleberry harvest. Native arts and crafts are for sale at both sites. The tour is conducted by tribe member John Low, a former tribal attorney and now executive director of the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, where the tour gathers before its 8 AM departure by bus.
