Pierre-Laurent Aimard

When: Sun., March 15, 3 p.m. 2015
Price: $25-$50
Over the last 15 years or so French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard has displayed impressive versatility, widening his repertoire to incorporate an impressive string of composers from his native France in addition to Liszt, Beethoven, and, most recently, Bach—for Deutsche Grammophon last year he recorded the first book of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier with a studious and conservative touch. Aimard’s increasing focus on the standard rep sometimes makes one forget that he first made his name as a fearless interpreter of modern music, but today he promises to remind us of that mastery with a program of music by his longtime colleague Pierre Boulez. The concert features key modernist literature, including Boulez’s Notations, his Piano Sonatas nos. 1 and 2, and the second book of his Structures for two pianos, for which Tamara Stefanovich will join Aimard. The concert is in celebration of Boulez’s 90th birthday on March 26. —Peter Margasak
