When winter rolls around it's hard to imagine a more comforting food than pierogi, and the friendly Polish gents behind this shoebox of a storefront are obliging, offering more than ten kinds of the hearty dumplings. The kraut-and-mushroom, a sleeper, are tangy and relatively light; the potato-cheddar and potato with farmers' cheese, both good on their own, become superlative when topped with a little of the sour cream and/or bacon that come with all, gratis. There are also single-ingredient pierogi (meat, kraut, potato, spinach) and fruit-filled dessert dumplings, plus borscht (with or without meat dumplings), and plates of stuffed cabbage or Polish sausage and mashed potatoes.
