September 7, 4:15 PM, 4400 block of North Magnolia.

Burglary. Police responding to call spotted suspect riding bicycle and carrying suitcase 2 blocks north of crime scene. Asked where he got items, suspect replied, "I don't know. That's your job to find out."

September 11, 6:30 PM, 1400 block of South Federal.

Attempted burglary. Home owner discovered stranger inside home. Struggle ensued, and offender ejected from front door. He then pounded on door, demanding return of his bag. Home owner inspected bag, opened door, and snatched ID tag from offender's clothing. Offender again attacked door, threatening home owner before fleeing. Offender arrested.

September 26, 5:15 PM, Red Line train near Addison. Assault. Student received note from fellow passenger informing her that man wearing sunglasses behind her was cutting her hair with razor. Offender fled after victim reported barbering to CTA personnel.

September 27, 9:30 PM, 1300 block of East 47th.

Shoplifting. Grocery store security guard observed offender fixing plate of salad and eating. Offender apprehended after walking past counter without paying.

October 4, 7:55 PM, 1900 block of West Madison.

Disorderly conduct. Offender threw cup of beer at victim, who cut in concession line at figure skating competition.

October 22, 8:30 PM, 700 block of West Belmont.

Assault. 38-year-old man complained that 350-pound girlfriend sat on his chest and scratched his face. Victim did not report incident to police until four days later, when he arrived at hospital complaining of chest pains.

October 24, 7:30 PM, 4500 block of North Beacon.

Assault. 67-year-old nursing-home resident scratched 68-year-old resident during dispute over ownership of teddy bear. Victim declined to press charges.
