November 22, 3 AM, 3200 block of North Sheffield. Battery. Man was walking down street when car attempted to run him down. Five men jumped out of car and began beating victim with rocks. One man pulled a gun as his friends yelled, "Pop him! Pop him!" Neighbors intervened and men fled. Car was described to police as maroon Nissan with "Prevent Violence" license plates.

November 25, 8 PM, Harlem-Irving Plaza. Theft. Boy brought $400 worth of clothing up to register at Carson Pirie Scott, where his mother was working. Mother removed antitheft tags and pretended to ring up purchase. As boy left store, security guard grabbed him. Mother was also arrested.

December 8, 3 AM, 5500 block of North Lincoln. Battery. Customer and waiter argued over bill at restaurant. Customer poked waiter in neck with pen. "You can't do that to me!" waiter said, and hit customer in head. Both were given several stitches at nearby hospital and released.

December 12, 7 PM, 4500 block of North Maplewood. Burglary. Woman came home from work to find door open with no sign of forced entry. Missing items included stereo, VCR, jewelry, and Christmas presents. Woman also discovered several empty cardboard boxes that had been left behind by burglar.
