Pete Miller's Seafood & Prime Steak | Evanston | Steaks/Lobster, Bar/Lounge, Music venue, Coffeehouse, Music Bar | Restaurant
Evanston cross between a jazz club and a steak house; meat selections are succulent and generous, fish dishes aren't bad either.

Our Review

This Evanston restaurant, part of the Clean Plate Club empire (Davis Street Fishmarket, Merle’s Smokehouse), combines a jazz club with a classic steak house. Locals come for the food and live music, then stay for a game of pool in the spacious bar area. Meat selections are succulent and generous, but the fish also holds its own. Some Raters find the menu in the main dining room shockingly overpriced, but the smaller bar menu is much more reasonable. Be wary of sitting in the band area if you plan to converse with your companions.

Bar Details

There are actually two bars at this downtown Evanston steak house, if you include the one in the billiard room. But the real scene unfolds around the rectangular setup at the center of the restaurant proper. Nightly jazz sets bring out an older crowd—call them Cialis singles—for drinks, oysters, and eye contact. The room has an indeterminate vintage look featuring dark wood, brass fittings, ceiling fans, shaded lamps, and waiters in aprons. Generous martinis and a good wine list. —Tony Adler
