Re: “Caffe De Luca

It had been about two months since my last visit to Caffe De Luca. I had a couple favorite menu items which I planned to order and was initially discouraged when our waiter handed me a menu that I did not recognize. After looking it over I was pleased to discover that my favorite sandwich was still available but with a couple new options offered. I like to get the brie and toasted almonds on crusty Italian bread as a light supper and was intrigued by the optional addition of grilled chicken and honey. Boy oh boy! What a delicious sandwich. And it was now more of a meal in itself.

Also, the coffee is the best I have had in Chicago. I really enjoy a good machiato and De Luca is the only local cafe I have been to that does it right. I have had decent machiatos at a couple upscale Italian restaurants, but most neighborhood-type cafes don't know what it is or try to give you what they think it is and fail miserably. The barristas at Caffe De Luca make a machiato the traditional way by pouring espresso through foam so it becomes naturally sweet and delicious.
