The matriarch of an Israeli family reuniting at Passover (Gila Almagor) tends to her children's and grandchildren's psychic wounds, both real and imagined, while nursing her own doubts regarding her husband's fidelity. Shemi Zarhin, directing his first feature (1995), treats the characters' assorted revelations like ripples on a bourgeois pond, and by dinnertime the hurts have begun to heal. His embrace of family is so determined that you might be able to forgive the film's meandering story line, sappy soul-searching, and awkward comedy of manners. 100 min.
