The Sirens kick off this long-form improv by reading an excerpt from a movie, play, or TV script randomly chosen from a pool created by the all-female cast. The night I went, a selection from Family Ties opened up lots of possibilities--almost too many. There were scenes of typhoon survivors on a remote island, trading at the Merc, and a teenager joy-riding on the family lawn mower. Individual bits had their highlights, but scenes kept branching and branching off again, diluting the show's energy. After an hour, the four talented, likable, often funny players limped to an inconclusive end. Perhaps having more players onstage--in future, they plan to field five to seven--will help them build a head of steam. --Laura Molzahn
