Pampers, Heavy Times, Negative Scanner

When: Sat., Nov. 15, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $10
Like their In the Red labelmates Lamps, Brooklyn’s Pampers hammer out scuzz punk with a bass sound like a helicopter rotor and abrasive hooks buried in a bloated swamp of reverb and distortion. On last year’s self-titled LP and the spankin’ new seven-inch “Right Tonight,” they thread their blaring noise with chewed-up shreds of psych and battered-and-bruised pop-punk riffs and rhythms. But the hyperactive clatter always wins out—and when the dudes try to gash through it with their guitars, they just make it louder. This throbbing hot mess of a sound goes with complacency and apathy about as well as a running chain saw, so if you want to stand there with your arms crossed during a Pampers set, you’d best seek out another party. —Kevin Warwick
