Over the GW

Nick Gaglia based this creepy and unpleasant debut feature on his traumatic experiences being addicted to drugs and indoctrinated into a cult. A young junkie from the Bronx (George Gallagher), consigned by his mother to an unorthodox rehab facility in New Jersey, is victimized by a sadistic administrator (hammy Albert Insinnia) who doles out brutality and humiliation under the guise of tough love. After the protagonist's younger sister is also admitted, the two are encouraged to narc on each other, their keepers less interested in the patients' well-being than in their own power (they punish eye contact, casual conversation, reading, even wet dreams). The flat digital videography makes watching this an even bigger chore, though Gallagher gives a creditable performance. 76 min.
