To the editors:

A friend in Chicago recently sent me a copy of the article published May 10 in the Reader. "The Dying Has Just Begun" by Tom Johnson is singularly the finest piece I have read since the Gulf War.

The media played a significant role by underreporting the devastation that our bombing caused in Iraq. Many Americans are deeply grieved and thoroughly ashamed of the horrors that our government continues to inflict on small countries.

You are to be congratulated for having the courage to publish an eyewitness account of the atrocities that this war has inflicted on innocent civilians. The war fever is at such a high pitch now that it is most gratifying to read an article that puts things into perspective.
