There’s probably a better way to kick off a brand-new year than by screaming along to cynical, dystopian garage rock—but you won’t find it at Lincoln Hall. To ring in 2015, Chicago’s own Orwells take over with two nights of drunken, sweaty guitar tunes. And the young kids have plenty of reasons to look back fondly at 2014. First and foremost, they released their major-label debut and breakthrough album, Disgraceland (Atlantic), with the album single “Who Needs You” reaching local airwaves. Plus, they played high-profile slots at both SXSW and Riot Fest. The Orwells’ lurching, antagonistic songs might not paint an especially hopeful future, but they make a great soundtrack for shrugging off the year we just endured. Who wouldn’t want to shout the lines “No thank you dear old Uncle Sam” and “I’ll just let it burn” after considering the news headlines these past few months? —Sasha Geffen The Orwells also play on Wed 12/31.
