Adam Gwon's 2008 song cycle gives us four young Lower Manhattanites with the sort of troubles young Lower Manhattanites might think they have. Jason is in love with Claire, but Claire rebels at too much intimacy. Deb is a grating striver who finds herself flummoxed by her college thesis; when she loses her notes, they're found by Warren, a would-be artist on the verge of disillusionment. Though the two putative couples never quite meet, their parallel adventures are supposed to put us in touch with the beauty of the everyday. In fact, they don't. With the possible exception of Jason (warmly sung in this BoHo Theatre production by Demetrius Spidle), the characters come off as banal, repellent, and—inasmuch as art-loving Warren is allowed to mistake Monet for a pointillist—strangely ignorant. Gwon may have sensed the difficulty: he ends up dragging the most extraordinary event of the 21st century into the mix, in an apparent bid to give Ordinary Days the heft it lacks. —Tony Adler
