Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic – Chamber Ensemble (debut) “Strings and Things that Swing: The New Third Stream”

When: Sat., Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m. 2009
chicagojazzphilharmonic.org
“Strings and Things that Swing: The New Third Stream,” will debut the newly created Chicago Jazz Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble and will feature thirteen of the orchestra’s brightest stars. Third Stream is a term coined in 1957 by composer Gunther Schuller to describe a musical genre which is a synthesis of classical music and jazz. The Ensemble will present works by Bill Russo, Mozart and Orbert Davis — plus works from the classic ‘jazz with strings’ performances of Charlie Parker and Clifford Brown. A pre-concert reception will give exclusive opportunities for guests to “meet the artists.” To round out the evening, Davis and members of the ensemble will facilitate a post concert discussion from the stage. General Admission tickets are $20 ($15 students) at www.chijazzphil.org/tickets. Tickets for the pre-concert reception are $150 and includes preferred seating for the performance. General admission tickets will also be sold at the door at 6:30pm.
